The
Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation is, as its name implies, a waterway
which takes advantage of these two most attractive Essex rivers. It
connects the town of Chelmsford with the fishing port of Heybridge
Basin, and is fourteen miles long with twelve locks including the sea
lock into Colliers Reach on the River Blackwater.

A
cruise aboard Victoria introduces this rural landscape, one of the
county’s best-kept secrets, to the visitor from a unique perspective.
Cruising peacefully downstream from Paper Mill Lock you pass such places
as Ulting Church, Hoe Mill, Ricketts Lock, Beeleigh Weir then cruise
into the Long Pond under the Black, Wave and Hall bridges to Heybridge
Basin. Upstream towards Chelmsford is equally beautiful, in more open
countryside, and passes LittleLittle Baddow (Kings) Mill, Stonhams,
Cuton, Sandford and Barnes Locks. |
